108 - I Sold A Print?

Thu Jan 4, 2007, 6:27 PM
Well, bugger me. Some kind soul has actually bought a print of Yo Llama! Whoever it was, I thank you immensely. I've been stewing ever since buying my prints account, but it's nice to know something did actually sell at last. This now puts sales of this, my only popular print, at $11.69 across here and Cafépress, neither of which I've actually been keeping tabs on. Granted, I won't see a jot of this money until that figure gets up to about $30, but it's nice to know someone likes my things at least. It's perhaps not quite as nice to see Cafépress rake in $144.39 off my designs, but then I'm hardly doing this for a true business venture, am I?

Well, I guess I'd better make some more designs, then...

Oh, thank you for that! Sorry, replying what, eight months on? Anyway, I reported it in conjunction with a piece in my old SonicFanatic gallery. I dare say it's the laziest rip-off I've yet seen...

at least you saw my message in the end. :) DA seems to delete work faster if the actual artist complains, not someone who 'noticed the similarities' (as one staff reply put it).

i come across tons of work like this. it's a good thing she didn't colour over more of it, or else DA might have refused to delete it under the new tracing rules.

Ooer. I've not kept up to date with the news here, so "new tracing rules" has an ominous vibe to it! Still, you're right - the rip-off's already gone.

Thank you again for the highlight. Looking back at that fanart account, I realised that I'd posted a message saying work would be removed... but I took that back. I thought I may as well take some of my favourite works out of storage for posterity's sake. :)

i can't quote directly, but a lot of work that is clearly traced or 'vectored' over a screenshot or another's artwork can often get away with it. we're tried to report images like that, with a link to the origional.. but got back invalid reports. (if you're interested, google for "Vampirella87". there's an article on ED about how she's gotten away with blatent tracing here on DA)

if a bit of the origional image remains or the origional artist complains, then it might be removed. your image was only recoloured in places, which thankfully is still breaking the rules.
i'm glad it's been deleted! i hope no more of your work is stolen. ^^
